Skogvokterne – all protectors unite!

Seven eager “Skogvoktere” from Inmeta gathered 7th of march at Voksenåsen Hotel in Oslo. We were ready to work as busy bees and “hack the heck” out of threats of the forest and save the trees.

The Concept

“Jungeltelegrafen” helping the trees fight back

What we ended up making was a complete alarmsystem that alert the users AKA. “Protectors” through an app whenever a tree “feel” threatened.

The protector get a total overview of where on the map the alarm is triggered, if there are any fellow protectors in the area (when in need of backup), and what kind of threat that triggered the alarm.

How does it work?

The trees are provided with a warrior mask that is packed with amazing sensors. The sensors that are triggered in the warrior mask takes a picture of the perpetrator and send an alert message to the dashboard, which again alert the closest protectors through the native app.

The protector can chose what kind of action he/she want to activate to save the tree.

Dashboard – here you can see how many and where there are alarms triggered in your country.

But does it work?

YES!
By creating a simulation we were able to test our concept virtually.
Placing the warrior masks/ sensors on a number of trees we are able to triangulate the triggered alarm and detect the exact location of the threat (chainsaw) that was present.

Testing out the sound sensor – and it picks up the chainsaw!

The protectors

This awesome team banged their heads together for three intense days between the leafs.

The ARIoT experience – intense fun

In short – the experience has been intense and awesome!

Seven (tired) “Skogvoktere” signed out of Voksenåsen Hotel after three exceptional days of IoT hacking.

We worked hard on collecting badges (20 in total – which gave us a 4th place) and keeping a storyline within our delivery. We are quite proud of the end result and all the work that has been put into it.

Thanks to the facilitators and the judges that made this hackaton amazing!

If you are up for some hardcore hacking, laughing and learning then you should sign up for next years ARIoT challenge.
