The question we are all asking ourselves (and our babies) when they start to cry for seemingly no reason whatsoever. Well, wonder no more! The iCrib has the functionality to register the cries from your baby and analyze them using advanced machine learning methods.
The dataset used for training is the Donate-a-cry corpus which is a few thousand audio samples of actual baby cries sent in by parents through a campaign a few years back.
A microphone connected to the Raspberry Pi registers your baby’s cries and performs analysis on them to let you know why your baby is crying. Is it hungry, sad, hot, cold or in any form of discomfort? We will let you know!
The analysis is run through a remote PC and sent to the cloud and then visualised in the mobile application.

Seeing as we are using a proper dataset for our machine learning algorithms, to produce a reliable result, we believe the “Savvy” badge is within our reach.
The code for our machine learning is available on gitlabs, see related post.
